One of the more interesting projects to look forward to here in 2009 is Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, in which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s masterful detective is reimagined as more of an adventurer and, given the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is starring in the titular role, much less stuffy and aloof than he’s typically been portrayed. How do we know? Elementary, my dear. This is quite obviously exemplified by our first glimpse of the film consisting of the above bloody shirtless shot of Holmes in what appears to be a bareknuckle boxing pit. Fisticuffsmanship! Let us hope that dialing up the action does not force these players to dial down the intellectual curiosity of Doyle’s characters.
Another photo is after the jump, featuring Jude Law as Dr. Watson as well.
If you’re a fan of Doyle’s work, or would just like to know more about his creations, Fancast also has two versions of the Sherlock Holmes saga for you to check out. First up is Peter Cushing’s legendary and iconic portrayal of the sleuth in the classic chiller story The Hound of the Baskervilles.
