It’s an ordinary day just like any other in New York City transit workers’ lives, until suddenly the Pelham 123 train stops cold with no explanation. Dispatcher Zachary Garber (Denzel Washington) tries to find out what the problem is, but it’s more than he bargained for. Seems a disturbed criminal by the name of Ryder (John Travolta) has led a gang of gun-toting thugs onto the train and taken its passengers hostage for ransom. Garber knows the tunnels better than anyone, and even he can’t figure out just how Ryder thinks he and his crew can escape. Who will outsmart who?
