President Obama gave his first primetime address since taking office so the TV night was reduced to just two hours, and CBS took advantage to claim a nightly ratings win.
What’s Hotter: The Big Bang Theory
This CBS comedy is red hot! Guest star Christine Baranski appeared last night as Sheldon’s mom and helped lift the show to a record high in viewers (just over 12.7 million). Of course it didn’t hurt that due to President Obama’s speech, the show aired at 9:30pm this week and had the help of a “Two and a Half Men” lead-in. Regardless, the show has been coming on very strong this season and is now a strong part of CBS’s potent Monday night lineup. And remember, this show didn’t exactly jump out of the gates strongly last year, it took some nurturing and patience from CBS. And now… voila! A certified hit.
What’s Definitely Not Happening:
“Heroes” lost almost 600,000 viewers from last week’s kick-off to the new Fugitives arc. Not an encouraging sign for NBC… a lot is riding on this show rebounding to its past levels of success. It’s not even for sure that this show will be back in the Fall, and if the numbers continue to drop, that becomes more and more of a question mark. It was noteworthy that at the recent TCA TV press tour, shows such as “The Office” and “30 Rock” were renewed early but “Heroes” wasn’t…
