Fox is causing a stir on the web with a sexy promo for its new Friday night Sci-Fi line-up, launching next week.
The Grindhouse-style spot features Eliza Dushku of the new series “Dollhouse” and Summer Glau of “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” as butt-kicking “Dames of Destruction.”
Zeroing in on hot chicks and retro-chic styling is a hip move by the network, looking to inject some enthusiasm into its new show pairing.
They certainly are in for a girl fight, considering CBS’ stranglehold on the Friday night ratings–led by “Ghost Whisperer” (now if they could just work Jennifer Love Hewitt into this promo, they’d really be on to something…).
Fox’s other winter programming decisions have worked brilliantly, with “House,” which moved to Mondays at 8 p.m., and “Fringe,” which is nicely tucked behind “Idol” at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, both hitting season highs in the ratings.
If this scheduling move also works out, it would be an additional coup. There’s the so-called “Friday Night Death Slot” curse to contend with, but Fox defied it once with “The X-Files” (the cult hit launched on Fridays before moving to Sundays), and if anyone can make a new sci-fi era a success, it’s the man behind the living dolls, Joss Whedon.
Check back later in the week for an interview with “Dollhouse” creator Joss Whedon (“Buffy,” “Angel”).
