“AbFab” Finally Coming To Fox

According to Yahoo! News, more information is being released about the new version of the hit BBC Britcom Absolutely Fabulous with the original Edina (Jennifer Saunders) driving the project.

The comedy, which starred Joanna Lumley and Saunders as a pair of wildly out of control fashionista publicists, will air this year and is to be written by Christine Zander, writer and producer of the hit ABC comedy Samantha Who? and exec produced by Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz. The update reportedly includes a move from London to LA.

This is not the first time a remake was rumored to be in the works, but it is the first time any effort has made it to the pilot stage. Roseanne Barr and Carrie Fisher developed a version for ABC in the ’90s, while Cybill Shephard’s CBS comedy Cybill was rumored to be loosely based on the premise.

And Variety is now reporting that Kristen Johnston (Sally Solomon on 3rd Rock From The Sun) blew everyone away at the table read and is being signed on to play Edina. It’s too bad Saunders can’t reprise the role, she was so brilliant. Ah, the ravages of time… wait a minute. Wasn’t that the point behind Edina’s character in the first place?

So the question is, who will play “Patsy” the chain-smoking glam blonde best buddy with a penchant for champagne cocktails and caviar nightmares? No word yet.
