Loosely based on the real-life story of renowned poet Dylan Thomas (Matthew Rhys) and the two women who loved him – his wife Caitlin MacNamara (Sienna Miller) and the first love of his life Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley) – The Edge of Love shows us that rivalry in love does not need to translate to enmity in life. The two women in Thomas’ life forge a friendship of their own, resulting in a strange trio that finds ways to enjoy their youth even in the midst of World War II. That is, until Vera becomes taken with an officer by the name of William Killick (Cillian Murphy) and is drawn away from her idyllic existence and towards an ominous future.
Knightley once again finds herself in a British period World War II drama about doomed romance, but the opening image of this trailer – that sculptured face of hers lit in loving blue – quickly tells us we won’t be covering quite the same ground as Atonement. There’s no U.S. release date yet, but that’s no reason not to investigate this art film.
