A lot of vitriol spills out of the mouth of Rex Ryan, most of which can (and should) be immediately disregarded. But one of his blustery quotes is getting some extra attention ahead of the Jets’ Thursday night clash with AFC East rivals the New England Patriots.
Former Jet LaDainian Tomlinson shared an anecdote on Tuesday’s edition of the NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access” in which Ryan promised to punch the Patriots’ Bill Belichick in the face.
“We were playing the Patriots one time, and as I mentioned, Rex is a master motivator,” Tomlinson recalled. “It was going to be a big game, a heated rivalry game, and Rex got in front of us, he said, ‘I’m going to set the tempo today, guys,’ he said, ‘I’m going to set the tempo when I meet Bill Belichick in the center of the field, I’m gonna start it off and punch him in the face.’ I loved it.”
Whether Ryan actually marches to midfield Thursday night and finally delivers on his promise remains to be seen. I’d personally put my money on The Hoodie in that fight. Regardless, it sure will be a fun game to watch.
