The video above features one of the most spectacular and bizarre buzzer beaters to ever happen in the sport of basketball. The game was a Section 1 Class AA championship game between Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle , and the fun started with only 2.9 seconds left on the clock with New Rochelle inbounding the ball and down 60-58. New Rochelle inbounded the ball, but the pass was stolen at half court by a Mt. Vernon defender who then tossed the ball in the air thinking it would be in the air long enough for time to expire. It was a very poor miscalculation.
New Rochelle player Khalil Edney stole the ball back and threw up a beyond-half-court prayer with .01 seconds on the clock that somehow found its way into the basket. New Rochelle ended up winning 61-60.
“That is my first buzzer-beater on a 3-pointer in high school to win a game,” Edney said. “Winning a state football title was a great feeling, but this is just as good because of the way it happened.
