The Bobby Petrino scandal isn’t going away. Unfortunately, it keeps gaining momentum.

Kicking a man when he’s down is trying, but if the latest report involving the recently terminated Arkansas head coach and a 26-year-old former “Miss Motorcycle Mania” bikini model is accurate, then Petrino’s slide is only just hitting its downslope.

Yesterday, Petrino’s phone records were made public. Those records revealed more than 4,300 text messages and as many as 300 phone calls exchanged with his alleged mistress and colleague, 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell.

There’s more to the story apparently, and her name is reportedly Alison Melder, a 26-year-old Arkansas-Little Rock graduate who earned a degree in political science and who works for the Republican Party of Arkansas.

From Deadspin:

“The process of parsing Bobby Petrino’s phone records continues, and another interesting number has popped up on our radar. In fits and starts, Petrino exchanged nearly two hundred text and picture messages with a Little Rock cell phone registered to one Alison Melder, whose LinkedIn profile lists her as a senate assistant with the Republican Party of Arkansas.

“Melder, 26, graduated from Arkansas-Little Rock with a degree in political science and has worked with the Young Republicans as well as the state GOP; she also worked on Jim Keet’s gubernatorial campaign in 2010. (On Twitter, her bio reads “Go Lakers, Go Hogs, and Go GOP.) But her political work is hardly the first thing that comes up when you search for her name: she did a spot of modeling, at least a few years back. One modeling profile she created four years ago contains a portfolio of bikini and lingerie images, and she seems to be a favorite of The Dirty. She also lists herself as winner of the 2008 Miss Bikini USA and Miss Motorcycle Mania competitions.”

The website notes that Melder’s number has since been disconnected, but that records show a log of at least 200 messages exchanged “at all hours of the day” between her and Petrino over a three-month period (September-November). The exchanges first appeared on September 12 and continued until November 6. Of particular mention are seven picture messages, “all from Melder to Petrino,” who is married with four children.

At the moment Petrino’s connection to Melder is only merely a connection, but the sheer frequency and volume of the messages suggests there’s more.

Petrino, who accepted full responsibility for his actions, has badly damaged his professional integrity, let alone compromised his marriage. And miles from Fayetteville, Arkansas, the waters are only just beginning to churn.
