Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy won’t make their final appearance on “The View” until Monday, but the ABC talk series is already moving ahead without them… and it’s not going well.

According to a TMZ report, the network recently taped a test show to gauge the chemistry between Whoopi Goldberg, returning co-host Rosie O’Donnell and prospective newcomer, CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp.

Cupp, who would fill the conservative role left vacant by current Fox News personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck, reportedly squared off with O’Donnell in a debate over an Australian couple accused of abandoning their baby boy with his surrogate after the child was diagnosed with Down syndrome. When the topic of conversation turned to abortion, a heated Goldberg asked the CNN pundit if she had ever been faced with making a decision about abortion.

While the drama might make for good television, the gossip site claims O’Donnell was not happy about the turmoil, and openly remarked that she “didn’t want another Elisabeth Hasselbeck.”

Even former co-host Barbara Walters, who left the series she created in mid-May, was somehow not immune to the on-set drama. TMZ alleges that, after the taping, Goldberg approached producers and said she had been “working with a cranky 85-year-old woman who’s mad about everything for 2 years, and I need a break.”

Shepherd and McCarthy filmed their final appearance on the “The View” today. It will air this Monday, August 11, after which the series will enter reruns until the new season begins in September.

Strangely enough, Goldberg did not attend the duo’s final taping.
