One day after telling Ryan Seacrest she was ‘so over’ her October wedding, former “Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson and her fiance, music manager Brandon Blackstock, have decided to scrap the planned event. Instead, the pair will elope, according to People Magazine.
Clarkson explained, “We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
The “Catch My Breath” singer hardly had time to catch hers as the wedding details became too much to handle. Clarkson shared, “I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now.” She continued, “We have two kids who just started school. We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]‘s got one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He’s flying everywhere.”
The couple informed guests of the wedding’s cancellation via text. Clarkson says that they “sent out an engagement photo to everyone and said, ‘Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister,’ ”
Hectic schedules and planning stress weren’t the only factors in their decision. Clarkson admits that their celebrity status also made them reconsider the event. “Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time,” the Grammy winner said. “Everything is such a spectacle. We were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.’ ”
Family and friends disappointed by cancellation will still have a chance to toast the couple. Clarkson says a friend is planning a “Stock the Bar” party to celebrate the completion of their new home. “All the people who were going to be at our wedding will be there,” she noted.
