Geraldo Rivera has come up with an explanation for revealing his half-naked body on Twitter. The 70-year-old journalist claims that he was drunk, according to the New York Post.

The Fox News host spoke out about the now-notorious viral photo on his syndicated radio show “Geraldo.” Among the callers questioning his judgment were fellow Fox News contributor Eric Bolling and former N.Y. Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who is no stranger to scandal himself.

On the air, Bolling asked Rivera, “Of all the people that should know better, it should be you. What were you thinking?”

Rivera explained, “There I was, 2:30 in the morning on Sunday morning. You know, I do the show Saturday night, I did a great show on black-on-black crime and race relations and the Trayvon Martin fallout and federal charges … and I get home and there’s no one to talk to, everyone’s asleep.”

Geraldo continued, “You just sit around, I had a drink and, you know, I had taken that picture Saturday morning and I was looking at it, just going through and I said ‘you know, I gotta tweet this thing. I look pretty good for a 70-year-old.’ ”

What type of drink would possibly push Geraldo to the edge of social media nudity? He explains, “This weekend, it was tequila. I never do tequila when I’m alone, but I had this new bottle that someone had given me for my birthday. By the second one, my fate was sealed.”

The veteran journalist somehow thought that the incident wouldn’t pick up much press. Geraldo said, “I think because I’m so old people will cut me some slack, they won’t take it took seriously. And I just pushed the trigger.’ ”

Eliot Spitzer chimed in, “The public will not only forgive you, they will say ‘move on.’” Still, let’s hope Geraldo learned his lesson and thinks twice before posting revealing pictures again.
