On May 7, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture posted a fascinating photo depicting several men relaxing along a sidewalk in 1939 Harlem, New York.
“Does the man on the right remind you of someone?” the blog asks. “Perhaps it was his great-grandfather taking a break in Harlem in 1939. The photographer, we know for sure, was Sid Grossman. If you can put a (real) name on the young man, let us know.”
There are no definitive answers so far, but as a result of the blog’s insinuation, the Internet has been abuzz with comparisons between the mystery man and Beyonce‘s husband, popular rapper Jay-Z.
While the powerful 43-year-old musician – who was born in Brooklyn, New York circa 1969 – has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and won 17 Grammys, in addition to co-owning the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and the fashion line Rocawear, it is highly unlikely that he also invented the ability to time-travel. Even so, there’s no doubt that the unidentified gentleman bears a striking resemblance to the hip-hop mogul.
It’s not the first time celebrities have been “found” in olde tyme photos. Men and women resembling today’s stars are routinely found in Civil War-era pictures (click here
to see a gallery of Civil War look-alikes) and posted on the internet for conspiracy theorists to embrace.
However, it’s worth mentioning that this photo’s surfacing coincides with the release of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s 1920s drama “The Great Gatsby,” which features a soundtrack produced by… you guessed it, Jay-Z. Check out the full photo below.
