Featured on the cover of InStyle’s May issue, Emily Blunt opens about marriage, Hollywood and fashion.
On her husband, John Krasinski:
“Meeting John really changed my life. When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible. There’s someone behind you on your good days, and someone in front of you on your bad days.”
“I want to play characters that aren’t necessarily typical. I’m interested in people who you might think are ugly on the inside, or lonely, or even majestic—all of that stuff.” And: “I’m a person who likes to sit back and watch the world. Acting allows me a place to use everything I’ve absorbed.”
“I see Hollywood as a bubble that you pop your head into every now and again. I never get fully immersed in it.”
On her co-stars:
Colin Firth in “Arthur Newman”: “Our relationship is filled with much love and much abuse.”
Tom Cruise in “All You Need Is Kill”: “It’s my first action movie. I wouldn’t want any other initiation that with Tom Cruise allowing me to kick his butt.”
On her style:
“I do see the joy of dressing up, like when I’m at an event that allows for it. But on a day-to-day basis, I don’t necessarily think about it too much.” Off-duty: “I like stuff that is a little edgy and more urban. I’m not a very girlie girl. I don’t really wear dresses in my everyday life.” On the red carpet: “I like to mix it up and be a bit more courageous. I don’t feel I have any particular style. I’m willing to experiment.”
On being 30:
“Thirty sounds appropriate to me. I feel I haven’t anything to prove anymore, so I’m excited. I’m ready for what’s next.”
