“Star Wars” actress Carrie Fisher was hospitalized after having a bipolar disorder relapse on a cruise ship, according to TMZ.

The 56-year-old star was featured as a surprise celebrity guest on board the Holland America Eurodam.  She turned in a rather bizarre performance.

The daughter of singer Eddie Fisher raised eyebrows with her slurred, off-key performance. TMZ also reports that Carrie had a special guest join her on stage – her dog, who relieved himself as she sang.

Representatives are attributing Fisher’s onstage meltdown to the bipolar disorder that has plagued her throughout her career.

Carrie was reportedly intoxicated before taking the stage, but her representative dispels that rumor. The rep says, “There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher’s bipolar disorder.  She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now.”

Carrie is a recovering drug addict who has discussed her bipolar disorder in the past. In a 2008 interview on the “Today” show, the actress admitted to using electroconvulsive therapy to cope with the condition.

News of Carrie Fisher’s hospitalization comes on the cusp of speculation that she will reunite with Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in the upcoming “Star Wars Episode VII.” There has been no word from Fisher’s representative as to whether or not she will reprise her iconic role of Princess Leia in the highly anticipated movie.
