Former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy admits to having a teenage crush in her new book “Bad Habits: Confessions of a Recovering Catholic” — Jesus Christ.
The 39-year-old TV host discusses her religious upbringing in the book and confesses that, while other girls may have had pictures of teen idols plastered all over their bedroom walls, she was obsessed with the Catholic Church, and with Jesus in particular.
During an interview with ABC’s “Nightline,” the former pinup revealed, during a tour of her childhood home with host Juju Chang, that she attended church at least twice a week while growing up in the Chicago area.
“I had a Jesus poster, the Pope was over there, I had some ‘I love Jesus’ t-shirts and bags hanging up. Jesus was my Justin Bieber,” McCarthy said as they examined her former bedroom.
“My mom wouldn’t let us have Fonzie posters on the wall growing up, so I was stuck with Jesus. I couldn’t help but have a crush on him,” she elaborated to Good Morning America‘s Elizabeth Vargas.
The “Love in the Wild” host also revealed that she had once thought of becoming a nun.
“[I] had a conversation with [the nuns] about what I wanted to be when I grew up — which was a mom and a nun — and they told me that wasn’t possible, so I knew that wasn’t my destiny. I had to take off the habit and put on my push-up bra,” McCarthy said.
That may have dampened McCarthy’s enthusiasm for taking religious vows, but it took a real-life boy to end her crush completely. The first time she made out with a boy in her room, she revealed, she covered up her Jesus posters.
““I cut out a picture of Cyndi Lauper and pasted her picture over Jesus,” McCarthy said. “Thanks, Cyndi.”
