Bobby Brown, the R&B singer and star of the reality TV show Being Bobby Brown, which chronicled a troubled marriage to late diva Whitney Houston clouded by alcohol and drug abuse, checked himself into rehab once again to deal with “addiction issues,” according to a report at TMZ.com.
Alicia Etheredge, Brown’s wife of nearly two months and also his manager, confirmed the report to Radar Online.
“He’s doing great,” Etheredge responded when asked how he was responding to treatment.
The one-time front man for boy band New Edition, who is perhaps best known for his solo hit “My Prerogative,” has struggled with alcohol issues for years, and has entered rehab before. His former New Edition bandmates were among those who urged him to seek help for his heavy drinking, according to sources.
In March, one month after his ex-wife Houston’s drug-related death, Brown was arrested on a DUI charge in Reseda, California. The couple were married from 1992 to 2007.
Brown “decided that he needed help and wants to make the best out of the rest of his life for his children’s sake,” said another source.
Brown has five children: a son, Cassius, 3, with Etheredge, whom he married in Hawaii in June of this year; three children from earlier relationships — Landon, 23, La’Princia, 22 and Bobby, Jr., 19 — and a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 19, whom he shared with Houston.
