Kristen Stewart has confirmed reports that she had a fling with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders, who is married with two children.
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” said the 22-year-old actress, who has been dating “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson for the past four years. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
The confession comes less than 24 hours after Us Weekly released incriminating photos of the actress and 41-year-old director, along with a detailed description of their reportedly steamy rendezvous.
Shortly after the magazine’s bombshell, Sanders’ wife, actress and model Liberty Ross (who played Stewart’s mother in “Snow White”), took to Twitter with a simple message: “Wow.” She then deactivated her account. Not-so-coincidentally, the last Twitter account Ross followed prior to bailing on the social media site was Us Weekly.
In an statment to People Magazine, Sanders has issued his own apology. “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family,” he said. “My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
Stewart and Pattinson, who are beloved for their leading “Twilight” lovers Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, began dating shortly after the release of the first film in 2008, but only recently confirmed their relationship. Less than two weeks ago, the couple appeared happy together at Comic-Con, where they were promoting part two of “Twilight: Breaking Dawn,” which is due out November 16. Just three days ago, they appeared together at the Teen Choice Awards.
Pattinson recently denied he and Kristen had plans to marry, but in the April issue of Italian Vanity Fair, the 26-year-old heartthrob was asked if he would ever date a married woman.
“Life is not black and white. There are married couples that never see each other. Is that marriage?” he said. “But there’s a thing I’ve never got: This is, why do people cheat? I can understand the impulse, but not how you can keep two relationships going at the same time for long.”
He continued: “I’m not the casual-affair kind of guy. If I choose to be with someone, it’s because I really want it. When I have a relationship, I’m 100 percent into it.”
So far, there has been no statement from Pattinson on the scandal.
