Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine, who up until today was guardian of his three children—Prince, Paris and Blanket—spoke to ABC News to voice her devastation over the court’s ruling to give her grandson TJ temporary guardianship.

The court made its decision while the kids’ grandmother was enjoying a hiatus at the Miraval Arizona Resort and Spa in Tucson, Ariz., where she had been unreachable until Sunday.

“I am devastated that while I’ve been away, my grandchildren have been taken away from me, and I’m coming home,” she said in the taped statement.

The 82-year-old has been in Arizona for at least a week, although she now says she’ll be returning to Los Angeles to be with her family.

The news comes a little late, as her grandchildren reportedly haven’t heard from her since her departure, which originally gave Katherine’s family the impression that she had been kidnapped.

“There are rumors going around about me that I have been kidnapped and held against my will,” Katherine said. “I am here today to let everybody know that I am fine.”

But why did she leave her grandkids wondering what happened? “One reason I didn’t call is I just gave up my phone and I didn’t want to have any phone calls while I was here,” she said.

The Jackson matriarch claims her absence was a “short vacation and rest.” Well, it was long enough to lose her grandchildren to Tito Jackson’s son TJ, a ruling she insists is “based on a bunch of lies.”

“There’s a lot of lies that have been put out there and I am going home to straighten them out, and this kind of stuff doesn’t make sense,” she said.

Katherine’s son Randy said in an earlier interview that Michael’s kids could have reached out to their grandmother any time through their aunt Rebbie, who has been in Arizona with Katherine and had possession of her cell phone.

Also present at the Arizona taping were two more of Katherine’s children, Jermaine and Janet, Rebbie’s daughter Stacy and a resort representative, though ABC News wasn’t permitted to direct questions to anyone but Katherine.
