In an interview with radio host Howard Stern, Jenny McCarthy opened up about her 2010 split with comedian Jim Carrey and his subsequent fallout with her autistic son, Evan.

As reported by Us Weekly, McCarthy said Carrey has completely turned his back on the 10-year-old boy.

“I’ve tried to ask [Jim] numerous times [to see Evan], because my son still asks,” the actress told Stern. She added that her son tells her he misses Carrey “almost weekly,” and she allows Evan to watch him films.

Although she has ceased direct contact with the actor, McCarthy says she’s tried persuading him to speak to Evan through other “channels.”

“I think that sometimes people need to take a real break from each other,” she said. “But as a mother, you just hope when you have a relationship with someone, it has nothing to do with the child when you break up.”

“I tell [Evan] that someday you’ll cross paths, meet again. . . [but] it’s hard,” McCarthy added. “He’s been in therapy. It’s a process, he’s working on it.”

Despite how her breakup with Carrey has affected her son, she says she doesn’t regret ending the relationship. “As you get older, you kind of get to see things more clearly,” McCarthy said. “I am so much happier.”

McCarthy’s new relationship with Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher may have something to do with it.

McCarthy confirmed their status at an autism charity event last month. “Yes it’s true, we are dating,” she told reporters. “Go Bears, that’s all I can say!”
