When Thanksgiving rolls around the picture conjured up in almost everyone’s mind is something along the lines of a Norman Rockwell painting––family members gathered around the table as the big, steaming turkey is brought out from the kitchen. What Rockwell never committed to canvas was the scene that happens the night before Thanksgiving. Sure, Thanksgiving is definitely family time, but the night before is when friends get back into town to reconnect and catch up over drinks and high spirits. If Rockwell was still with us, here are a few Seattle haunts he might consider as worthy subjects.

This cozy jewel of a bar has been tucked away in the heart of Ballard since 1950. The Viking is the perfect spot to hook up with friends and family on the eve of Thanksgiving. Settle into one of The Viking’s comfortable red booths and swap stories or grab a stool at the bar and chat it up with the friendly and attentive bartender who knows how to pour the perfect drink. The food is as classic as the bar itself. Warm your bones with some Viking Chili or nosh on some Nordic nachos. Shuffle board and plenty of on street parking seals the deal on this neighborhood hangout.
Summit Public House
601 Summit Ave. E Ste 102
Seattle, WA 98102
In the summer the sidewalk tables are full of folks soaking up the sun and the suds outside of the Summit Public House. But as the weather turns and the holidays approach, the action moves inside into to the warm and inviting pub where friends, family and neighbors gather to catch up and enjoy the longer, colder nights. And what better way to do that than to try out some of the 22 beers that the Summit Public House has on tap? Catch them at happy hour for some beer specials and traditional pub grub like tacos and chips; it’s always offered up at fair prices. And if you’re looking for a little recreation when meeting up with your friends, the Summit Public House has you covered with free pool from the time the doors open all the way to last call.

If you want to impress your friends while catching up on the latest news and gossip, then there’s no better place than Vessel. Recently re-opened to the cheers of serious and discerning imbibers, Vessel serves up the craft cocktail like no other. The hotspot is known for practicing the painstaking precision and care that goes into mixing just the right cocktail. Equal only to the beverages served at the bar is the food that comes out of the kitchen, like the roasted beet soup with crème fraiche and mint. Bottom line – it all adds up to one impressive evening for you and your friends.

There are plenty of reasons to recommend Toulouse Petit, but most impressive is the amazing selection of spot on happy hour nibbles (escargots, steak tartare), and lively “it’s time to party” vibe that is rare in establishments with this quality of food and beverage. Not surprisingly, word has spread about this joint, which has been recognized as having one the best happy hours in the country by a number of publications. The line of eager fans has been known to snake out the door and onto the sidewalk, but don’t let that discourage you and your friends. Get there early and, if you are so inclined, stay late. Once inside, you’ll be in good company. Grab a table, order up some food and a cocktail––the Lillet rocks with a twist comes highly recommended.

If you are looking for a place to go dance with your friends the night before Thanksgiving, then Q nightclub is the place. There are plenty of booths and tables to rest your weary feet in the sleek club and there are multiple bars ensuring you don’t have to walk too far a glass of bubbly or other fun concoction. But the real action at Q is on the dance floor. The club has been recognized as having one of the 10 best sound systems in America, so you may want to get all of the catching up with old friends out of the way before you hit the dance floor. This Wednesday night Q is holding a special dance party with DJ Nark and Blueeyedsoul at the turntables. Consider this your pre-Thanksgiving-meal workout.
