Barbara Bush Slams 2012 Elections

Being a former first lady herself and the mother of a two-term president, Barbara Bush has seen her share of politics.

And so far, it doesn’t sound as though Mrs. Bush likes what she’s seeing during the 2012 presidential campaign.

“I think it’s been the worst campaign I’ve ever seen in my life,” she said Monday at Southern Methodist University, according to the Dallas Morning News. The comments were part of a conference on the role of first ladies, and Laura Bush also attended. “I hate that people think compromise is a dirty word. It’s not a dirty word.”

While the elder Bush didn’t name any names in her bashing of the 2012 election, she reportedly expressed support for Republican Mitt Romney.

For her part, Laura Bush tried to describe the current political vitriol of Washington as “just a part of American politics.”

It wasn’t a point her mother-in-law could agree with.

“I think the rest of the world is looking at us these days and saying, ‘What are you doing?’” Barbara Bush said.
