It’s finally here! Oscar night has finally arrived! Are you ready for the biggest night in Hollywood?
Have you …
1. Watched the nominated films?
2. Studied the 2012 presenters?
3. Printed your Oscars ballot?
4. Bookmarked the Xfinity.com Live Oscars Chat, which starts tonight at 7 p.m. EST?
Last night, I took one final walk down the red carpet (check out my red carpet set-up photos by clicking here) and around the Hollywood & Highland Center before the madness of today’s event takes over. It’s nothing short of remarkable how much work goes in to setting up an event that will last about 6 hours.
I also visited the adjacent Walk of Fame near Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, where I got Oscar predictions from the stars. Well, the “stars.” Every night, celebrity impersonators walk the star-studded sidewalk posing for pictures with tourists. They are quite an eccentric bunch. I waited all night hoping to see the Michael Jackson impersonator again, but he didn’t show. Oh well.
Check out my Predicting with the “Stars” feature to see their Oscar picks.
Speaking of predictions, it’s time for my final pick of the 84th Academy Awards: Best Picture. The nominees are (left to right below) “The Artist,” “The Help,” “The Descendants,” “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,” “War Horse,” “The Tree of Life,” “Hugo,” “Midnight in Paris,” and “Moneyball.”
Of these nominated films, my favorites were “The Help,” “The Artist,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Hugo” and “Moneyball.” In that order, with “The Help” being my favorite.
The critically panned “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” has no business being nominated and “The Tree of Life” was by far the worst film I saw all year. Sorry, folks. That movie is terrible. If I wanted to watch 15 minutes of outer space footage interspersed with whispered dialogue, I’d go to a planetarium. As for “The Descendants,” Clooney’s performance was great, but that alone will not be enough to earn the Best Picture title.
This year’s Best Picture will be either “The Help” or “The Artist.” And after the strong support I saw for Harvey Weinstein’s silent film at yesterday’s Film Independent Spirit Awards, I think this one is a lock.
WHO SHOULD WIN: “The Help”
WHO WILL WIN: “The Artist”
That’s it, folks. It’s time for the 84th annual Academy Awards. It’s time for me to head out and set-up for the live Oscars chat (starting tonight at 7 p.m. EST) and then throw on my tuxedo for the big night! Yes, even the press has to wear tuxedos (or dresses, for the ladies).
For now, I leave you with a short video I shot yesterday at the Spirit Awards. This is “My Week with Marilyn” star Michelle Williams talking to the press after winning her award for Best Female Lead. Will we see a repeat tonight?
See you on the red carpet …
