It’s part two of the top beauty picks to keep your makeup bag on the level-level ladies, and if I do say so myself, the second half of this list is even more crucial than the first. With six more critical areas to cover, let’s jump right in, beginning with the product no woman should do without, eye shadow!

Eye shadow really is everything, and if you’re skipping this major part of your beauty routine, you are most definitely short changing your eyes. While the list of eye shadows is long, I’m going to throw what will be a curve ball for most of you and say that Femme Fatale’s Duochrome Eye shadows get the top pick for most crucial eye shadow. This line, based out of Australia, is very underground and can’t be snagged at your major department stores. But it’s the best kept secret because these mineral shadows boast some of THE BEST blends I have ever tried! While you can spend ten minutes just trying to create a cohesive eyelid using four different shadows, these colors are already blended. This means that based on the light, it can look like you’re rocking out purple…or red…or magenta…all with some amazing hint of gold. In one shadow ladies! Nothing over the top and obnoxious, these really are everyday showstopper shades. Best part…you can get samples for as little as $1.10, and full size colors for $5.75 each.

Speaking of shadows, did you get the primer memo? No matter how FAB your eye shadow is, if you aren’t using a primer, once again you’re short changing yourself. I gotta be honest and say I wasn’t always sold on the primer. Frankly I felt like it was an extra annoying step and just a way for cosmetic companies to sell me one more thing. Wrong! Primers are what set your eye shadow so it stays in place, and furthermore they enhance the color and quality of the shadow. It is worth the extra ten seconds it takes to put on. I recommend checking out primers like Sephora’s own brand in-store by testing out a shadow on your hand with the primer and then without the primer. You’ll be sold!

I have always found it hilarious that you never ever have to sell a woman on the importance of wearing mascara. I swear, if a chick leaves the house with nothing else on, she will indeed have on her mascara! That said, there are unfortunate mascara extremes, ranging from “Ummm…do you even have mascara on?” to “Is that a tarantula crawling on your face?” As if that isn’t problematic enough, I must say I find nothing more annoying than mascara that is great for like five applications, and then loses its luster and begins to dry out. So between short changing me on enhancing my eyelashes, now you’re going to waste my money too? T-A-N! (That’s A NO!). Keeping in mind that like money, beauty trends never sleep, one of the best mascaras on the market right now is Chanel’s Le Volume Mascara. A true enhancer of your eyelashes in the way it thickens and elongates, you’ll consistently find yourself with fab lashes daily. Furthermore, thanks to the quiet snap that occurs upon closing, this mascara doesn’t dry before its time.

Quick “Beauty” Public Service Announcement- You really must stop wearing your mascara past its time ladies. I know you want your money’s worth, but after 3-4 months, it really is time to let it go. Please put that mascara in the trash and let it die an honorable death. Honestly.

Before we leave the eyes, I would be remiss if I didn’t touch on eyeliner. I know the trend has been all about the cat eye, which is pulled off by using liquid liner (Stila reigns supreme), but I must say, there is still nothing “badder” (as in good) than a chick who knows how to work classic liner. While the color black seems to be the staple, I highly recommend putting down the black and picking up beautiful colors like plum purple, navy, emerald green, and even gray. A step further, blending your eyeliners is a great way to go. For example, if you’re trying to pull off an everyday vapor eye (I call it vapor instead of smoky because you’re not going for all out evening, just DAY-FAB), instead of applying one eyeliner on the lower rim of the eye, apply two and then use your finger to mess it about. So you would apply plum purple first, and then forest green. It’s a great pop, with little effort! Love that Giorgio Armani’s Eyeliners have a sponge tip on the opposite side of the liner to make the “mess” for you.

Highlighters. Highlighters are one of those tricky CWS (coulda, woulda, shoulda) products. Honestly, there are many days where I’m rushing out of the house and I either forget to put on highlighter, or I simply don’t have the time to do it. Once I’m in the car, and look in the visor mirror, my heart sinks just a bit. Not enough to turn the car around, but enough to shake my head. If you’re at a point where you’re mastering your beauty routine to the fullest, then you should care about using a highlighter. It’s the highlighter that adds beautiful tone with appropriate shine and sparkle to your nose, upper cheekbones, and chin. It’s what gives you that “finished” look, like you really did tackle every part of your face. Whether liquid (think Giorgio Armani’s Highlighter) or Powder (Laura Mercier’s Mosaic Shimmer Bloc is the business!), definitely make this your final step when ready to “do it all.”

Speaking of final steps, let me close with an important first step. Serum! This is another one of those products that was all about seeing is believing for me. Aging is real ladies. I’m aging as I’m typing! On a random gift with purchase, I got to try out a serum quite some time ago, and I’ve never looked back. After use I found my skin to be smoother and tone way more clear than ever before. While we all have different areas of our skin to focus on, I think we can all come together and agree we want our skin to look fabulous. I recommend you get yourself to a counter, snag some samples, and get down to business. But buyer beware…when you get your hands on the right serum, there really is no turning back! Completely obsessed with Prevage’s Advanced Anti-Aging Serum, I can honestly admit I get a bit nervous every time that pump acts like it’s got nothing left to give! Shame.
