NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Seattle Mariners are serious about free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton.
The team has discussed three-year deals with Hamilton in the range of $20 million to $25 million per season, major-league sources say.
The Texas Rangers remain more focused on free-agent right-hander Zack Greinke, sources say, creating a possible opening for the Mariners.
The Mariners met with Hamilton on Sunday, and the Boston Red Sox also spoke with him during the winter meetings, sources say.
The Rangers are awaiting a decision from Greinke while trying to acquire a potential replacement for Hamilton: Arizona right fielder Justin Upton.
If the Rangers lose Greinke to the Los Angeles Dodgers, they could shift their focus back to Hamilton, then trade for a starting pitcher.
