Mayweather sorry for De La Hoya pic

Floyd Mayweather is as outspoken a sports personality as they come, so it is no surprise that he has offered support to former boxer Oscar De La Hoya -- even after his win over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night.

But Mayweather was forced to issue an apology Monday night after a meme surfaced on his Instagram mocking De La Hoya, who recently checked himself into rehab. The image was a photo of De La Hoya, that read across the top: Meanwhile in rehab; and across the bottom: Oscar: I gave Canelo the wrong blueprint I was high (stripped across the bottom of the photo)

OK, so clearly something was amiss since here’s what Mayweather said on Saturday after the fight:

"I want Oscar to, you know, I want him to come home and get back to what he does best. I'm saying as far as getting behind his young fighters and helping to coach them and keeping them on the right path. And Oscar De la Hoya's a true champion. I commend him and take my hat off to him, also."

Mayweather apparently does not post to his own social media accounts, and blamed the distasteful photo on one of his employees. He issued an apology on his website and Instagram on Monday night that read:

"It's unfortunate that a stupid picture was posted to my Instagram account earlier today that was not posted by me or authorized by me to post. As I clearly stated during my fight week and again in the post-fight press conference, I completely support Oscar De La Hoya and his family during this difficult time in his life. I stand by him unconditionally and would never personally disrespect him or anyone else who struggles with addiction.

"I apologize to Oscar and his family for this posting. I wish him well and am rooting for him to win his fight too. I also apologize to all of my followers for this ridiculous post. I have no ill-will towards anyone."
