The man who was driving the Jet Ski that ran into 11-year-old Kile Glover, causing him fatal injuries, has been convicted of homicide by vessel.
Usher 's former stepson, one of ex-wife Tameka Foster 's children from a previous relationship, was tubing during an outing on Georgia's Lake Lanier in July 2012 when he was struck in the head by the watercraft. He suffered brain damage and was taken off life support a couple weeks .
Jeffery S. Hubbard, a friend of the family who was arrested last March, was also convicted Thursday in a Hall County courtroom of serious injury by vessel, reckless operation, unlawful operation of personal watercraft and boat traffic violation, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . He's scheduled to be sentenced on March 5.
"At the end of the day, I know he didn't do it on purpose," Foster told Atlanta's Channel 2 News. "He could've only loved Kile."
Kile's dad is Foster's TV executive ex Ryan Glover.
Usher and Foster broke up in 2009,but the R&B superstar was obviously affected by Kile's death, alluding to real-life trauma in the October 2012 music video for his single "Numb." The video, which also drew from his and Foster's heated custody battle over their two sons, featured Usher visiting a woman in a coma in the hospital. (Foster was also hospitalized in an induced coma in Brazil in 2009 after suffering complications from surgery.)
Foster set up Kyle's World Foundation in her son's memory, benefiting arts and media education programs for children.
She hasn't tweeted about the verdict, but she has replied with thank-yous to the fans who reached out with supportive comments.
